OSRS Forestry Guide: Chop Together, Get Rewards!

Tired of fighting over Yew trees or watching Magics disappear right as you arrive? Say hello to Forestry: The Way of the Forester! This massive Woodcutting expansion transforms the skill from a largely solo activity into a dynamic, social experience packed with events and new rewards.

Whether you're chopping Oaks or Redwoods, Forestry introduces mechanics that encourage group chopping and reward participation. This guide covers the core changes, the essential Forestry Kit, how events work, and the rewards you can earn.

Core Woodcutting Changes with Forestry

Forestry fundamentally alters how tree chopping works outside specific areas (like the Woodcutting Guild or player-grown trees):

  • Group Boost: Chopping the same tree as others grants an invisible Woodcutting level boost (+1 per player, up to +10). More woodcutters = faster logs for everyone!
  • Timed Trees: Instead of depleting randomly per log, trees now last for a set duration after the first cut. The timer pauses if everyone stops chopping, regenerating slowly. This removes direct resource competition. (Timer lengths vary by tree type, see Wiki for specifics).

The Essential Forestry Kit

Get started by grabbing a free Forestry Kit from the Friendly Forester (found near popular WC spots like Draynor Willows, Seers' Village Maples, etc.). This equipable kit is vital:

  • Event Spawning: At least one player chopping nearby needs a kit for events to potentially spawn.
  • Storage (Members Mostly): Stores Forestry-specific items:
    • Anima-infused bark: The main reward currency.
    • Leaves: Gathered while chopping, used with meat/fish to make Forester's Rations.
    • Forester's Rations: Consumed to activate Felling Axe passive effects (extra XP/logs).
    • Secateurs Attachment: Doubles leaves gathered.
    • Nature Offerings: Chance for extra logs per chop.
    • Outfit Storage: Can hold Lumberjack/Forestry outfits (via Clothes Pouch) and WC Cape (via Cape Pouch) to grant their effects without wearing them.

Forestry Events: Spicing Up the Chop!

The heart of Forestry! While chopping eligible trees with a kit nearby, random events can occur.

  • Spawning: Events are randomly selected when chopping starts and have a chance to trigger during the tree's life or just after it's felled. More players increase spawn chance.
  • Eligibility: To get full rewards (XP, Bark, Uniques), you generally need to:
    1. Have chopped a tree within 30 tiles of the event spawn point in the last ~3 minutes.
    2. Not move too far away (>30 tiles) and chop another tree before engaging with the event.
  • Scaling: Events scale in difficulty/rewards based on participant numbers.

Event Types Overview (Members have access to all):

(Free-to-play can only spawn Sapling, Roots, and Ent events)

  • Rising Roots: Chop roots that spawn nearby. Focus the special green Anima-infused root for bonus rewards.
  • Struggling Sapling: Gather resources (leaves, droppings etc.) to create mulch. Feed the sapling the correct mulch combination for best XP/rewards. (Farming XP awarded too!)
  • Flowering Tree: Pairs of coloured bushes spawn. Find the matching pair that accepts pollen and pollinate them. Repeat for multiple pairs.
  • Woodcutting Leprechaun: Acts as a temporary bank deposit for logs. Stand on "End of Rainbow" spots for temporary WC/Bark boosts.
  • Beehive: Use logs to help a Beekeeper build unfinished beehives. Chance for Sturdy Beehive Parts (POH). (Construction XP awarded too!)
  • Friendly Ent: Prune Entlings according to their specific requests (Top, Back, Sides). Correct pruning gives rewards. Chance for Egg Nests. (Fletching XP awarded too!)
  • Poachers: Disarm fox traps set by Poachers to save a Frightened Fox. (Hunter XP awarded too!) Chance for Fox Whistle (pet transmog).
  • Enchantment Ritual: Stand on the uniquely shaped/coloured ritual circle summoned by a Dryad. Repeat for multiple rounds. Chance for Petal Garland (cosmetic).
  • Pheasant Control: Sneak eggs from Pheasant Nests back to the Freaky Forester without getting caught. (Thieving XP awarded too!) Chance for Pheasant Tail Feathers (costume) and Golden Pheasant Egg (pet transmog).
