Frequently Asked Questions

It's a medium-length quest, usually taking 1 to 1.5 hours due to significant travel between Varrock, Ardougne, Keldagrim, and Port Sarim, along with specific challenges like the mansion stealth section and the cat vs. King Rat fight.

You must have completed Gertrude's Cat and Icthlarin's Little Helper, and started The Giant Dwarf (for Keldagrim access).

A cat (cannot be overgrown), 4 Cheese, Rat Poison (or ingredients: vial, kwuarm, red spider eggs), Catspeak amulet (unless DS2 completed), Pot of Weeds, Tinderbox, Snake Charm (obtainable during quest), ~100 coins. Ingredients for cat antipoison (Marrentill, Unicorn horn dust, Milk bucket) are also needed temporarily.

No, overgrown cats cannot be used for the rat-catching parts or entering the Rat Pits. A kitten or regular cat is required. You can use an overgrown cat for the King Rat fight if you have one.

It can be frustrating as it requires patience and careful timing to avoid the guards. Getting caught sends you back to checkpoints. The OSRS Wiki notes recent updates made guard paths easier to anticipate.

The King Rat has 10 HP and hits 1 damage. Your cat's stats vary. It's crucial to bring fish (any type except leaping) to heal your cat by using the fish on the hole-in-the-wall during the fight. Telling your cat to 'Be careful!' makes it retreat at 1 HP.

They are minigame arenas located under Varrock, Ardougne, Port Sarim, and Keldagrim where players can have their cats (not overgrown) compete against waves of rats for fun or bragging rights.

Yes. Ironmen need to source herbs (Kwuarm, Marrentill), Red spider eggs, Unicorn horn (pestle+mortar for dust), cheese, weeds+pot, snake charm (from The Feud or quest), and have access to a cat.
