10 Must-Have OSRS Quest Unlocks (Beyond Recipe for Disaster)
Completing Recipe for Disaster (RFD) for those coveted Barrows Gloves is a massive milestone for any Old School RuneScape account. But the questing journey doesn't end there! Many other quests unlock incredibly powerful spells, prayers, essential transportation methods, new training areas, and skilling opportunities that are fundamental to efficient gameplay.
Beyond RFD, here are 10 more quest lines or individual quests widely considered "must-haves" for progressing your account:
- Desert Treasure:
- Why: Unlocks the Ancient Magicks spellbook. Ice Barrage/Burst are vital for efficient Slayer training and multi-combat PvM/PvP. Blood spells offer healing, Shadow spells have utility. Absolutely essential.
- Requires: Several prerequisite quests and decent combat stats.
- King's Ransom (and Knight Waves training):
- Why: Unlocks the Piety, Chivalry, and Rigour/Augury prayers (Rigour/Augury require purchasing scrolls after). Piety is a massive Melee boost, Rigour/Augury are essential for high-level Ranged/Magic DPS.
- Requires: Decent combat skills to survive the Knight Waves training ground.
- Fairy Tale Part II - Cure a Queen (Partial Completion):
- Why: Grants access to the Fairy Ring transportation network (requires Dramen or Lunar Staff initially). This network provides fast travel to dozens of locations across Gielinor, saving countless hours. You only need to progress partially through the quest to gain access.
- Requires: Lost City, Fairytale Part I, some skilling stats.
- Tree Gnome Village & The Grand Tree:
- Why: Unlocks the Spirit Tree transportation network and access to the Gnome Stronghold Agility Course. Spirit Trees offer convenient teleports, especially useful for farming runs and reaching certain areas.
- Requires: Relatively low requirements.
- Dragon Slayer 2 (DS2):
- Why: Unlocks Vorkath, one of the most consistent money-making bosses. Also unlocks the Mythical Cape (best-in-slot Melee cape before Infernal) and access to the Myth's Guild (Wrath Runecrafting altar). A major Grandmaster quest.
- Requires: Very high quest point total, high skill levels (including 70 Agility!), and challenging boss fights.
- Song of the Elves (SotE):
- Why: Unlocks the city of Prifddinas, home to The Gauntlet/Corrupted Gauntlet (major PvM/profit), Zalcano (skilling boss), Divine Potions, Crystal Armour/Weapons, new Thieving methods, and more. Another huge Grandmaster quest.
- Requires: High quest points, very high skill levels (including 70 Agility!), and a difficult final boss fight.
- Lunar Diplomacy:
- Why: Unlocks the Lunar Spellbook, filled with useful utility spells like Vengeance (PvP/PvM), Fertile Soil (farming), Humidify (filling water containers), NPC Contact, and various teleports.
- Requires: Several prerequisites, decent stats (65 Magic, 60 Mining, etc.).
- Monkey Madness II (MM2):
- Why: Unlocks access to the Maniacal Monkeys for burst/chinning training (some of the best XP rates), unlocks Zenyte jewelry crafting (Anguish, Torture, Tormented, Suffering - requires high Crafting/Magic), and continues the gnome questline.
- Requires: High stats, MM1, other prerequisites, challenging bosses/puzzles.
- Horror from the Deep:
- Why: Unlocks the Unholy Book (Book of Darkness), Zamorak God Book, providing excellent Magic Attack and Prayer bonus. Other God Books are also unlocked but Book of Darkness is particularly useful early/mid-game.
- Requires: 35 Agility, Barcrawl card. Relatively simple quest.
- Animal Magnetism:
- Why: Unlocks Ava's Devices (Attractor/Accumulator/Assembler). These automatically pick up most ranged ammunition, saving significant money and hassle for anyone training Ranged. Assembler (from DS2/Vorkath) is the best version.
- Requires: Several low-level skills and simple item gathering.
