OSRS Entry-Level Bossing Guide: Your First Steps into PvM

You've trained your combat stats, you've completed some key quests, and now you're ready to take the next step: your first boss. The world of Player vs. Monster (PvM) can be intimidating, but entry-level bosses are the perfect training ground to learn the ropes.

This guide will introduce you to the best bosses to start with, covering their simple mechanics and the gear you'll need to claim your first victory.

The Entry-Level PvM Mindset

Before you start, remember the goal of entry-level bossing is to learn, not necessarily to make millions of GP. You'll be practicing:

  • Managing your inventory with potions and food.
  • Using protection prayers effectively.
  • Understanding basic boss mechanics.
  • Learning how to get to and from a boss lair safely.

Recommended Stats: Base 70s in all combat skills (Attack, Strength, Defence) and 43+ Prayer.

1. The Giant Mole (Combat Level 230)

The Giant Mole is the quintessential first boss for any aspiring PvMer.

  • Location: Under Falador Park.
  • Why it's great for beginners:
    • Simple Mechanics: The Mole attacks with basic Melee. You just need to turn on Protect from Melee.
    • The Gimmick: Occasionally, she will burrow and move to another part of the cavern. Your job is to find her and continue the fight. This teaches you about dealing with non-standard fight mechanics.
  • Gear: Standard melee gear like a Dragon Scimitar, Dragon Defender, and a Fighter Torso.

2. Obor & Bryophyta (F2P Bosses)

These two bosses are the champions of the free-to-play world, but they are also excellent practice for members.

  • Location: Obor (Hill Giant boss) is in the Edgeville Dungeon. Bryophyta (Moss Giant boss) is in the Varrock Sewers.
  • How to fight them: You must obtain a Giant Key (for Obor) or a Mossy Key (for Bryophyta) as a rare drop from their regular monster counterparts.
  • Why they're great for beginners: They have very simple, predictable attacks and low health, making for quick and easy fights.

3. Sarachnis (Combat Level 318)

Sarachnis is a step up in difficulty and a perfect introduction to more complex mechanics.

  • Location: The Forthos Dungeon.
  • Why it's a great next step:
    • Prayer Switching: Sarachnis switches between Melee and Ranged attacks, forcing you to pay attention and switch your protection prayers.
    • Minions: She will occasionally spawn minions that you need to deal with, teaching you about add management.
  • Gear: A crush weapon, like a Dragon Mace or Sarachnis Cudgel, is highly effective.

4. The King Black Dragon (Combat Level 276)

The KBD is an iconic boss that teaches you about a crucial PvM mechanic: dragonfire.

  • Location: The KBD Lair in the deep Wilderness.
  • Why it's great for beginners:
    • Dragonfire Protection: You must bring an Anti-dragon Shield and an Antifire Potion to survive its dragonfire breath. This is a fundamental mechanic used in many other boss fights.
  • Gear: Melee gear with a dragonbane weapon like the Dragon Hunter Lance is best, but a simple Dragon Scimitar also works well.
