This Herblore activity challenges you to refine herbs, mix ingredients, process potions, and fulfill orders against the clock.
This guide covers the requirements, how to get there, the core gameplay loop, the special Digweed mechanic, and the valuable rewards available from the Mixology shop.
Requirements & Getting There

- Quests: Completion of
Children of the Sun
(for Varlamore access). - Items: Clean herbs or unfinished potions (un-noted) to refine. At least 1 free inventory space needed, 3 recommended for efficiency.
- Location: Alchemical Society facility, Aldarin island, Varlamore.
- Getting There:
- Fairy Ring
CKQ
(run south-east). - Quetzal Transport System to Aldarin (run north).
- Charter Ship to Aldarin (run south).
- Aldarin POH Portal / Teleport Tablet (run south).
- Pendant of Ates to North Aldarin (requires
Death on the Isle
, run south-west).

Gameplay Loop: From Herb to Order
Mastering Mixology involves a four-step process:
1. Refining: Getting the Paste
- Action: Place clean herbs or unfinished potions (un-noted) into the Refiner (next to the bank chest).
- Output: Produces Mox, Aga, or Lye Paste depending on the herb type (e.g., Guams/Tarromin -> Mox, Ranarr/Toadflax -> Lye, Irit/Cadantine -> Aga).
- Process: Happens automatically (passive) every 2 ticks, or can be sped up (active) by clicking the refiner every tick.
- XP: Gain 6 Herblore XP per herb/unf potion refined.
- Storage: Add the paste to the adjacent Hopper (holds up to 3,000 of each paste).
2. Mixing: Creating the Base
- Interface: Enter the main lab area to see the HUD displaying three potion orders and your current paste levels.
- Action: Pull the levers corresponding to the required pastes (Mox, Aga, Lye) to match an order displayed on the HUD. Each pull adds one "dose" of paste (consuming 10 paste from the hopper later).
- Recipes: Potion names often hint at the required pastes (e.g., Marley's MoonLight = Mox-Mox-Lye). Level requirements restrict which orders you receive.
- Correction: Pulling a lever when the mixer is full overrides the oldest ingredient.
- Collect: Click the Mixing Vessel to retrieve the Unfinished Potion Base (this consumes the paste from the hopper). You cannot collect if you lack the paste or Herblore level.
3. Processing: Finishing the Potion
- Action: Take the Unfinished Potion Base to the correct workstation indicated on the HUD order:
- Agitator (Homogenising): Click to start, click again within 2 ticks of the sound/visual cue, then again 1 tick later for max speedup & bonus XP. Spam clicking also works.
- Alembic (Crystallising): Click to start, click again on the 5th pump animation for speedup & bonus XP.
- Retort (Concentrating): Click constantly every tick for speedup & bonus XP per click.
- XP: Processing itself gives small amounts of bonus Herblore XP if sped up correctly. Higher Herblore levels process faster passively.
4. Depositing: Fulfilling the Order
- Action: Place the finished potion onto the Conveyor Belt (north side).
- Rewards:
- Depositing a correct potion fulfills the order and grants Herblore XP + Mox/Aga/Lye Resin (reward currency).
- Depositing 2 correct potions at once gives +20% Resin.
- Depositing 3 correct potions at once gives +40% Resin.
- Depositing an incorrect potion gives 1/3rd XP and only 10 Resin of the potion's highest tier type.
- Refresh: Depositing any potion (correct or incorrect) refreshes all three orders on the HUD.
The Digweed Bonus
- Spawn: Occasionally, a Digweed plant blooms in a corner (chat message appears). Rate scales with Herblore level (~1 every 7 mins at 81+).
- Effect: Click to collect. Use the Digweed on an unfinished or finished potion. When that specific potion is deposited, you receive double the normal Herblore XP and Resin.
- Handling: Digweed withers if you leave the minigame area while holding it. You can stack multiple Digweeds on the floor (pickup/drop within 3 mins to reset despawn timer) or use them immediately on potions you plan to make soon. Holding one seems to prevent new spawns.
- Strategy: Use Digweed on higher XP/Resin potions (like MixALot or those requiring two Lye/Aga pastes) for maximum benefit. Avoid using it on the basic AAA/MMM/LLL potions.
Rewards: Spending Your Resin
Resin earned is spent at Supervisor Lalo's Mixology Rewards shop. Key items include:
- Prescription Goggles: 10% chance to save secondary ingredients when making regular potions.
- Alchemist's Outfit (Cosmetic): Labcoat, Pants, Gloves.
- Reagent Pouch: Stores up to 26 of each secondary herb ingredient (requires 81 Herblore).
- Potion Storage: Bank interface upgrade to store potions/vials separately.
- Chugging Barrel (Tradeable): Allows drinking up to 5 different potions simultaneously while at a bank.
- Alchemist's Amulet: 15% chance for 4-dose potions (up from 5% with Amulet of Chemistry). Charged with Amulets of Chemistry.
- Aldarium (Tradeable): Ingredient for Goading Potions & Prayer Regeneration Potions.
- Potion Packs: Bundles of various useful potions.
