OSRS Varlamore Guide: Welcome to the Shining Kingdom!

Prepare to explore a vast and vibrant new frontier in Old School RuneScape – the Kingdom of Varlamore! Located far to the west on the continent of Zeah, this "Shining Kingdom" boasts unique cultures, stunning landscapes, challenging new PvM encounters, engaging skilling activities, and a rich history distinct from the mainland and Great Kourend.

Whether you're a fresh arrival or looking to delve deeper, this guide provides an overview of Varlamore: its background, key regions and cities, major activities, available quests, and how to navigate this expansive land.

A Brief History of Varlamore

  • Ancient Origins: The land was first inhabited by the mysterious "Old Ones," worshippers of Ralos (Sun) and Ranul (Moon), whose ruins dot the landscape. Their attempts at soul transference led to their extinction and the creation of the dangerous Strangler parasite.
  • Founding: Refugees fleeing Xeric's reign in Kourend (~1000 years ago) crossed the Custodia Mountains. Three main groups – Imcando dwarves, Talkasti nomads, and Pericans – eventually settled the region.
  • Unification: Initial conflicts between the Talkasti and Pericans eased as they adopted the shared Losanium religion (worship of Ralos and Ranul). This led to expansion and the founding of Varlamore, named after the River Varla that once divided them.
  • War of Betrayal: Around 100 years ago, Emperor Imafore Tullus betrayed and murdered the visiting Kourend royal family, sparking a deeply unpopular war. Freedom fighters led by his cousin, Mezpah Arkan, eventually captured and executed Imafore, ending the Tullus dynasty and establishing the current Arkan rule under the Sun King/Queen (currently Queen Zyanyi Arkan).
  • Opening Borders: Historically isolated, Varlamore only recently established diplomatic ties and opened travel to the mainland, starting with a delegation to Misthalin (as seen in Children of the Sun).
