OSRS Slayer Masters Guide: Finding Your Assignment

Slayer Masters are essential NPCs in Old School RuneScape who assign players tasks to kill specific monsters, forming the core gameplay loop of the Slayer skill. Choosing the right master based on your combat level and goals is crucial for efficient training, earning Slayer Points, and accessing profitable tasks. This guide covers all Slayer Masters, their locations, requirements, and task characteristics.

(Masters are listed roughly in order of increasing difficulty/requirements.)

1. Turael / Spria

  • Location: Turael is in south-east Burthorpe. Spria (requires A Porcine of Interest) is in Draynor Village.
  • Requirements: None (Combat Level 1+).
  • Task Difficulty: Very Easy. Low monster counts, typically weak monsters found near starting areas.
  • Points: 0 points per task.
  • Special: Turael (or Aya post-WGS) can replace your current task from another master with a very easy one. Warning: Doing this RESETS your task streak to 0, forfeiting any milestone point bonuses. Spria cannot reset tasks.
  • Use Case: Primarily used for point boosting (doing 9 easy tasks here, then the 10th milestone task at a higher master) or getting rid of a truly terrible task if you have no points to skip.

2. Krystilia

  • Location: Edgeville jail building.
  • Requirements: None (Combat Level 1+). Requires completing at least one Slayer task from any master first.
  • Task Difficulty: Variable. Assigns monsters located exclusively in the Wilderness. Task difficulty itself varies, but the location adds significant risk from PKers. Monster counts are usually low-medium.
  • Points: 25 points per task (Highest base points). Milestone bonuses apply.
  • Special: Wilderness tasks have a chance to drop Larran's Keys (used on chests for valuable loot) and Slayer's Enchantments (used for Slayer Staff (e)/Expeditious/Slaughter bracelets). Tasks have a separate streak counter from other masters.
  • Use Case: Fastest way to earn Slayer Points, potential for high profit via Larran's Keys, adds PvP risk/excitement. Excellent for low/mid levels wanting points fast.

3. Mazchna

  • Location: Canifis, on the bridge near the Slayer Tower shortcut.
  • Requirements: 20 Combat, Priest in Peril quest.
  • Task Difficulty: Easy to Low-Medium. Assigns slightly stronger monsters than Turael, often located in Morytania or nearby areas.
  • Points: 2 points per task. Milestone bonuses apply.
  • Use Case: An early-game step up from Turael once Morytania is unlocked. Tasks are generally quick. Replaced by Achtryn during While Guthix Sleeps.

4. Vannaka

  • Location: Edgeville Dungeon, east section near wilderness ditch lever.
  • Requirements: 40 Combat.
  • Task Difficulty: Medium. A popular master for mid-level accounts. Assigns a wide variety of common Slayer monsters found across Gielinor.
  • Points: 4 points per task. Milestone bonuses apply.
  • Use Case: Standard mid-level Slayer training. Offers a good variety of tasks suitable for players developing their combat stats and gear.

5. Chaeldar

  • Location: Zanaris, in the Fairy Queen's chamber (requires access via Lost City quest start). Access via Fairy Rings.
  • Requirements: 70 Combat, Lost City quest start.
  • Task Difficulty: Medium-Hard. Known for assigning tasks that can be dangerous or require specific environments/items (e.g., metal dragons, TzHaar).
  • Points: 10 points per task. Milestone bonuses apply.
  • Use Case: Bridge between mid-level and high-level Slayer. Introduces some tougher assignments.

6. Konar quo Maten

  • Location: Mount Karuulm summit, near the farming patch. Access via Fairy Ring (CIR) or Rada's Blessing 3+.
  • Requirements: 75 Combat.
  • Task Difficulty: Hard. Assigns high-level monsters similar to Nieve/Duradel, but tasks are location-specific (e.g., "Kill Black Demons in Taverley Dungeon"). Cannot assign Wilderness tasks.
  • Points: 18 points per task (20 with Elite Kourend Diary). Milestone bonuses apply.
  • Special: Monsters killed on Konar's tasks (in the specified location) have a chance to drop Brimstone Keys, used on the chest near her for valuable supplies and unique items (including Dragon Hasta pieces).
  • Use Case: Excellent for profit due to Brimstone Keys. Location restrictions can sometimes be inconvenient but often target good spots. Great for milestone tasks due to high point rewards.

7. Nieve / Steve

  • Location: Gnome Stronghold, near the southern bank/Magic Trees. Access via Spirit Tree, Glider, Royal Seed Pod, Slayer Ring.
  • Requirements: 85 Combat.
  • Task Difficulty: Hard / Very Hard. Assigns mostly high-level monsters suitable for experienced players. Task list is very similar to Duradel's but weights may differ slightly (e.g., assigns Turoths instead of Waterfiends compared to Duradel).
  • Points: 12 points per task (15 with Elite Western Diary - matching Duradel). Milestone bonuses apply.
  • Use Case: Popular high-level Slayer master offering consistently challenging tasks suitable for good XP and profit. Easier access than Duradel. Replaced by Steve after Monkey Madness II.

8. Duradel / Kuradal

  • Location: Shilo Village, upstairs in the fishing shop. Access via Shilo Village cart, Fairy Ring (CKR), Karamja Gloves 3/4.
  • Requirements: 100 Combat, 50 Slayer, Shilo Village quest.
  • Task Difficulty: Very Hard. Considered the highest standard Slayer Master. Assigns the toughest monsters and often in large quantities.
  • Points: 15 points per task. Milestone bonuses apply.
  • Use Case: The go-to master for max-level players seeking the best XP/hr tasks and most challenging assignments. Generally offers the best balance of high-XP tasks. Replaced by Kuradal after While Guthix Sleeps.

Choosing Your Master

  • Early Game/Point Boosting: Use Turael for quick tasks, switching to Konar/Duradel/Nieve for milestone bonuses (10th, 50th tasks etc.). Use Krystilia if willing to brave the Wilderness for fastest points.
  • Mid-Level (40-85 Combat): Primarily use Vannaka, graduating to Chaeldar and Konar as requirements are met.
  • High-Level (85+ Combat): Use Nieve/Steve or Duradel/Kuradal for the best tasks for XP and profit. Use Konar for Brimstone Keys (especially on milestone tasks).
  • Remote Tasks: Use the NPC Contact spell (Lunar spellbook) to get tasks remotely from any master you meet the requirements for.

Understanding each master's task pool, requirements, and point rewards helps you tailor your Slayer journey towards your specific goals, whether it's maximizing experience, profit, or points accumulation. Check our Slayer Training Guide for task recommendations.
