OSRS Slayer Points Guide: Earning & Spending Reward Points (2025 Update)
Slayer reward points are the essential currency for customizing your Slayer journey in Old School RuneScape. The system recently received a massive overhaul, making points easier to earn for new players and spending them more flexible than ever.
This guide covers everything you need to know about the updated system, including the new point rewards, reduced unlock costs, and the game-changing per-master block lists.
Earning Slayer Points
The core method of earning points remains the same: build a task streak. Points are awarded starting from your 5th consecutive task, with higher-level masters awarding more.
- Slayer Master Point Rewards (Updated): The points awarded by early-game masters have been significantly increased!
- Turael/Spria: 0 points
- Mazchna: 6 points (up from 2)
- Vannaka: 8 points (up from 4)
- Chaeldar: 10 points
- Nieve/Steve: 12 points
- Duradel/Kuradal: 15 points
- Konar quo Maten: 18 points
- Krystilia (Wilderness): 25 points
- Milestone Task Bonuses: You receive a multiplier on your points for milestone tasks.
- Every 10th task: 5x normal points
- Every 50th task: 15x normal points
- Every 100th task: 25x normal points
- Every 250th task: 35x normal points
- Every 1000th task: 50x normal points
- (Example: Vannaka's 50th task now awards an incredible 8 * 15 = 120 points!)
- Point Boosting: The classic strategy of completing 9 tasks from Turael and your 10th from a high-level master is still the fastest method. However, the buffs to Mazchna and Vannaka make it less necessary, as you can now earn a healthy amount of points just by training Slayer normally from a low level.
- Turael Resetting: Be cautious! Asking Turael or Spria for an easier task resets your task streak to 0. If you're close to a milestone, it's always better to spend 30 points to skip.
Spending Slayer Points: Cheaper & More Flexible
The recent update dramatically changed how you spend points by reducing costs and introducing individual block lists for each Slayer Master.
The New Block List System
This is the biggest change: every Slayer Master has their own block list. You can now have a list optimized for Duradel's XP tasks and a completely different one for Krystilia's Wilderness tasks without spending points to switch them. The cost to block a task now also varies by master. For a deep dive into this new system, check out our Slayer Block List Efficiency Guide.
Top Priority Unlocks (Updated Costs)
- Bigger and Badder (Superior Slayer - 50 points): Now incredibly cheap, this should be your first unlock. It gives a chance for powerful Superior Slayer monsters to spawn, offering huge XP drops and valuable unique items like the Imbued Heart.
- Malevolent Masquerade (Slayer Helmet - 400 points): This cost is unchanged and remains a top priority. It allows you to combine multiple pieces of Slayer headgear into one best-in-slot item, saving inventory space and providing crucial protection and damage bonuses.
- Blocked Tasks (40-100 points per slot): With the new per-master system, you can start customizing your lists early. Block high-weight, undesirable tasks to improve your chances of getting fast, profitable assignments.
- Ring Bling (Slayer Rings - 150 points): The cost for this unlock was halved. Slayer Rings offer essential teleports to key Slayer dungeons and are now much more accessible.
Secondary & Other Unlocks
- Task Extensions (Various costs): Once your core unlocks are secured, you can spend points to increase the kill count for tasks you enjoy, such as
Nechryaels
orDust Devils
for bursting. - Task Storage (500 points): The cost to unlock this niche feature was halved from 1,000 points. It allows you to "store" a task to complete later, which can be useful for certain strategies.
- Broad Fletching (300 points): Essential for Ironmen who need a steady supply of effective, cheap ammunition (
Broad Bolts
andArrows
). - Herb Sack (750 points): A great quality-of-life item for storing grimy herbs, extending trips and increasing profit per hour.
- Rune Pouch (750 points): Incredibly useful for any activity involving magic, including bursting Slayer tasks. Note that this can also be obtained from the Mage Training Arena or Last Man Standing.
Skipping Tasks (30 points)
Skipping a task for 30 points remains a vital tool. It cancels your current assignment without resetting your streak. This is perfect for avoiding a slow task that you haven't blocked, especially when you are approaching a big milestone task.
Conclusion
The Slayer rewards system is now more user-friendly and rewarding than ever before. With buffed point gains from early-game masters and drastically cheaper core unlocks, you can customize your Slayer experience much faster. Prioritize getting Superior Slayer unlocked for just 50 points, save for your Slayer Helmet, and then take advantage of the powerful new per-master block lists to streamline your grind to 99.
