. Must bring Blackstone Fragment (obtained during quest) to start the fight. - Location: Sunken Cathedral, Lassar Undercity (accessed via sinkhole north-west of Ruins of Camdozaal, under Ice Mountain).
- Fastest Travel:
- Ring of Shadows teleport (requires Sirenic Tablet infusion).
- Mind Altar teleport, run south-east to Camdozaal.
- Lassar Teleport, use shortcut (68 Agility) or run around.
Fight Overview: Sanity & Shadows
The Whisperer (900 HP) is primarily a Magic-based fight that revolves around dodging attacks, prayer switching, and managing your Sanity.
- Weakness: Magic. Ranged/Melee are ineffective.
- Sanity: Starts at 100%. Drains by 3% per tick (+ 3 Prayer points) while in the Shadow Realm (activated via Blackstone Fragment). Also drained by failing specials or being hit by tentacles. Reaching 0% leads to rapid death. Regenerates slowly (1% per 4 ticks) only when outside the Shadow Realm.
- Standard Attacks (Volleys): Fires three rapid projectiles per attack cycle. Can be Ranged (purple barbs) or Magic (blue orbs). Use Protect from Missiles or Protect from Magic accordingly. Damage applies on impact, allowing reaction flicks. Attack patterns change as the fight progresses (see below).
- Tentacles: After each volley, four Shadow Tentacles emerge near you (initially 'X' pattern, later adds '+' pattern) and converge on your previous tile. Getting hit deals 20 damage and drains 20% Sanity. Dodge using L-shaped movement (2 tiles straight, 1 tile perpendicular).
- Melee Attack: If you get too close (within ~5 tiles), she uses a rapid two-hit melee attack that hits through prayer. Stay at range.
Attack Patterns & Phases
The pattern of Ranged (R) and Magic (M) shots per volley changes based on phases marked by special attacks:
- Phase 1 (100%-80% HP): Single style per volley (e.g., R-R-R or M-M-M).
- Phase 2 (80%-55% HP): Two of one style, one of the other (e.g., R-R-M or M-M-R).
- Phase 3 (55%-30% HP): One style sandwiched by the other (e.g., R-M-R or M-R-M).
- Enrage Phase (<0 HP -> 140 HP): Starts Ranged, alternates style every two attacks. Faster attack speed.
Special Attacks (Rotation Based, Trigger at 80%, 55%, 30% HP)
The Whisperer follows one of two rotations for her special attacks. These require entering the Shadow Realm via the Blackstone Fragment to resolve correctly. Damage reduction applies to her during specials.
- Shadow Leeches (Corrupted Seeds):
- Mechanic: Whisperer scatters seeds. Enter Shadow Realm to see light green (safe) and dark green (damaging) seeds. Step on all light green seeds quickly.
- Failure: Take 75 damage, lose 75% Sanity.
- Success (Perfect): Restore 15% Sanity. Stepping on dark green seeds deals 15-25 damage.
- Strategy: Memorize patterns (Wiki has examples), briefly enter Shadow Realm to identify safe seeds, exit, and step on them in the real world to conserve Sanity/Prayer. Use 4/5-tick weapons to attack between stepping on seeds.
- Soul Siphon:
- Mechanic: Whisperer summons 12 Lost Souls chanting different phrases. Enter Shadow Realm. Kill at least one full set (matching chant) within ~10 seconds.
- Failure: Take 50 damage, Whisperer heals 100 HP.
- Success Effects (Per Set Killed):
- Vita! (Yellow x2): Heal ~20% HP.
- Oratio! (Blue x3): Restore ~20% Prayer.
- Sanitas! (Cyan x3): Restore 15% Sanity.
- Mors! (Green x4): Deal 50 damage to Whisperer (75 if all 12 souls killed).
- Strategy: Prioritize Sanitas! (Cyan) or Vita! (Yellow) if low. Use a fast multi-target weapon (Venator Bow is BiS, Blowpipe secondary) to clear multiple souls quickly. Target end souls in lines for ricochets. Exit Shadow Realm immediately after clearing desired sets.
- Screech:
- Mechanic: Whisperer teleports South, charges 3 screeches. Floating columns appear. Enter Shadow Realm to see column HP (20, 40, 60). Hide behind a column for each screech (destroys column used). Use weaker columns first.
- Failure: Take 45 damage, lose 45% Sanity per hit.
- Strategy: Briefly enter Shadow Realm, identify 60 HP and 40 HP pillars, exit. Hide behind: Any Pillar -> 40 HP Pillar -> 60 HP Pillar.
Binding Attack (After Specials)
- Whisperer often launches a binding projectile (always hits) after a special, then moves towards you for melee.
- Counter: Freeze her immediately with Ice spells (Barrage/Blitz guarantee freeze even on miss) or Standard binds. Alternatively, stand 10+ tiles away when she launches the projectile, and she'll stop before reaching you.
Enrage Phase (<0 HP -> 140 HP)
- Pulled into Shadow Realm permanently (constant Sanity/Prayer drain).
- Whisperer heals 140 HP, stats reset.
- Attack speed increases.
- Attacks start Ranged, switch style every two attacks.
- Only one tentacle spawns per attack (easier to dodge with L-movement).
- Strategy: This is a DPS race against your Sanity/Prayer drain. Maintain L-movement to dodge tentacles while prayer flicking accurately. Prioritize survival and consistent damage. Heal/restore Prayer preemptively before this phase if possible.
