OSRS Tombs of Amascut (ToA) Guide: Raids 3 Deep Dive

Venture beneath the sands into the Jaltevas Pyramid and face the challenges laid down by the Menaphite gods in the Tombs of Amascut (ToA), Old School RuneScape's third raid! ToA offers a highly customizable raid experience through its unique Invocation system, allowing players to tailor the difficulty and potential rewards across four distinct paths and a challenging final encounter.

This guide provides a comprehensive overview of the Tombs of Amascut, covering access, the Invocation system, raid structure, consumables, death mechanics, and the valuable rewards within.

Accessing the Tombs

  • Requirement: Completion of the quest Beneath Cursed Sands.
  • Location: Jaltevas Pyramid, Necropolis (south-east of Sophanem).
  • Fastest Travel:
    • Pharaoh's Sceptre teleport to Jaltevas (requires activating obelisk north of Necropolis mine).
    • Fairy Ring AKP (requires 62 Agility).
    • Nardah teleport and run south-west.
  • Lobby: Features a bank chest and grouping obelisk.

The Invocation System: Tailoring Your Challenge

ToA's defining feature is the Invocation System. Before starting, the party leader selects various modifiers (invocations) that increase the raid's difficulty and contribute to the Raid Level.

  • Raid Level: Starts at 0, increases with each invocation. Every 5 Raid Levels increases enemy HP, Defence, Accuracy, and Damage by 2% (Damage caps at +150%).
  • Invocation Categories: Affect Attempts (Hardcore Run, Softcore Run, etc.), Time Limits, Helpful Spirit supplies, Path Levels (making later paths harder), Prayer effectiveness, Restorations (food/potions), and specific boss mechanics.
  • Loot Scaling: Higher Raid Levels significantly increase the chance of rolling the unique drop table.
  • Modes: Raid Levels determine the mode:
    • Entry Mode: 0-149 Raid Level
    • Normal Mode: 150-299 Raid Level
    • Expert Mode: 300-600 Raid Level

(Refer to the OSRS Wiki for a full list of Invocations and their effects)

Raid Structure: The Four Paths & The Wardens

Unlike CoX's randomness or ToB's linearity, ToA offers choice within a set structure.

  1. The Nexus: Central hub after entering. Contains the Helpful Spirit (offers supplies) and entrances to four paths.
  2. Four Paths (Any Order): You must complete all four paths. Each consists of a challenge room followed by a boss fight.
    • Path of Crondis: Water puzzle room -> Zebak (Crocodile boss, Ranged/Magic attacks).
    • Path of Scabaras: Puzzle rooms (sequence, matching, numbers, etc.) -> Kephri (Scarab boss, Melee/Magic attacks, summons minions).
    • Path of Het: Mirror puzzle room -> Akkha (Humanoid boss, switches prayers/styles, requires specific style counters).
    • Path of Apmeken: Combat/Wave room (baboons) with environmental hazards -> Ba-Ba (Baboon boss, Melee attacks, rock throws).
  3. Helpful Spirit: Appears in the Nexus after completing 2 paths, and again after completing all 4. Offers limited supplies (scaling with team size and invocations). Key supplies include:
    • Ambrosia: Full restore (HP/Prayer/Run).
    • Nectar: Strong HP heal, drains stats.
    • Smelling Salts: Restores run energy, boosts combat stats.
    • Liquid Adrenaline: Halves spec cost temporarily.
    • Tears of Elidinis/Blessed Scarab: Prayer restoration.
    • Silk Dressing/Honey Locust: Healing over time/Flat heal+prayer.
  4. Lower Level: After all 4 paths are clear, descend to the final encounter.
  5. Final Boss: The Wardens: A multi-stage fight against Elidinis' Warden and Tumeken's Warden. Involves managing energy orbs, dodging obelisk attacks, damaging the Warden's core, and a final intense enrage phase.

Death Mechanics

  • Default (No Attempt Invocations): Safe death. You respawn outside the room you died in. Progress within the room is reset, but completed rooms remain cleared. Unlimited attempts.
  • Limited Attempts (Try Again/Persistence/Softcore/Hardcore Invocations): A team wipe (all players dead simultaneously in a challenge room/boss fight) consumes one attempt. Running out of attempts makes the next death for anyone an unsafe death (items go to reclaim storage, HCIM status lost).
  • Disconnects/Logouts: Treated as a death. If you fail to rejoin your party quickly (e.g., log into wrong world), it can trigger an unsafe death if attempts are limited.

Rewards: Osmumten's Sarcophagus

Upon defeating The Wardens, players access the treasure room and can loot Osmumten's Sarcophagus (for uniques) or side chests (for standard loot).

  • Unique Chance: Determined by total Raid Level. Higher level = better chance. Only one unique drop per raid possible (rolled once for the team, awarded to one player based on contribution, potentially favouring MVP). Sarcophagus glows purple if a unique is obtained.
  • Unique Drops:
    • Tumeken's Shadow (Staff): BiS Magic weapon in many scenarios.
    • Masori Armour Set (Ranged): Mask, Body, Chaps (upgradable with Armadyl components). BiS Ranged armour.
    • Osmumten's Fang (Melee): Powerful Stab weapon, unique accuracy mechanic.
    • Elidinis' Ward (Magic Shield): BiS Magic shield (upgradable with Arcane Sigil).
    • Lightbearer (Ring): Doubles special attack energy regeneration rate.
    • Keris Partisan Jewels: Breach of the Scarab (Defence drain), Eye of the Corruptor (Poison), Jewel of the Sun (HP restore). Enhance the Keris Partisan.
  • Standard Loot: Includes Soul Runes, Blood Runes, various gems, resources (Gold Ore, Magic Logs, Raw Sharks), Cache of Runes, Coconut Milk, Cannonballs. Quantity scales with individual points.
  • Tertiary: Tumeken's Guardian (Pet), Thread of Elidinis (Divine Rune Pouch upgrade).

Conclusion

The Tombs of Amascut offers a highly replayable and customizable raiding experience. The Invocation system allows players to fine-tune the difficulty to their skill level and gear, from accessible Entry mode runs to incredibly challenging high-invocation Expert modes. Mastering the unique mechanics of each path and the final Warden fight is key to consistently clearing the raid and earning its powerful, meta-defining rewards.
