Horror from the Deep begins outside the Lighthouse north of the Barbarian Outpost with Larrissa, whose boyfriend Jossik has vanished. After repairing the nearby bridge (requires 2 planks, 60 steel nails, hammer), you enter the lighthouse (using a key obtained from Larrissa's cousin Gunnjorn at the Barbarian Outpost Agility course). Inside, you find Jossik's journal and his uncle Silas's diary detailing dagannoth creatures and a mysterious metal door in the basement. You repair the lighthouse lamp mechanism (requires Molten glass, Swamp tar, Tinderbox). Descending into the basement, you unlock the metal door by using elemental runes (Air, Water, Earth, Fire), a sword, and an arrow on its corresponding symbols. In the cavern below, you find the injured Jossik. A Dagannoth (Level 100) attacks, which you defeat (can be safespotted). Immediately after, the Dagannoth Mother (Level 100) emerges. This boss changes colours, corresponding to different attack styles (White=Air, Blue=Water, Brown=Earth, Red=Fire, Orange=Melee, Green=Ranged), and is only vulnerable to the matching style. Defeating her completes the quest.

They are equipable items for the shield slot that provide Prayer bonus and Attack/Defence bonuses corresponding to their alignment (Saradomin = Attack/Defence, Zamorak = Attack, Guthix = Balanced Attack/Defence). They must be filled with pages (obtained from clue scrolls) to gain their full stats.
