OSRS Ancient Wilderness Weapons Guide: Power in the Wasteland

The treacherous Wilderness holds not only danger but also immense power in the form of the Ancient Wilderness Weapons. Dropped exclusively by the ghostly inhabitants of the Revenant Caves, these three weapons – Craw's Bow (Ranged), Viggora's Chainmace (Melee - Crush), and Thammaron's Sceptre (Magic) – offer unparalleled effectiveness against monsters within the confines of the Wilderness.

This guide delves into these unique weapons, explaining their powerful effect, how they work, how to obtain them, and where they excel.

(Note: While the Voidwaker is assembled from parts from Wilderness bosses, it's generally considered separately due to its different effect and PvP focus. This guide focuses on the core Revenant weapons).

The Wilderness Weapon Effect

The defining characteristic of these weapons is their potent passive effect, active only inside the Wilderness:

  • Requirement: Must be charged with Revenant Ether.
  • Effect: Gain a +50% Damage AND +50% Accuracy bonus against ALL NPCs located within the Wilderness.
  • PvP: This bonus does NOT apply when attacking other players.
  • Outside Wilderness: The weapons function as standard equipment with relatively average stats for their tier, losing their special bonus.

This massive boost makes them Best-in-Slot (BiS) for killing many Wilderness monsters and bosses when charged.

The Three Wilderness Weapons

1. Craw's Bow (Ranged)

  • Requirements: 60 Ranged
  • Type: Shortbow (requires arrows), Attack Speed: 4 ticks (Rapid)
  • Effect: Gains +50% Ranged Accuracy and Damage vs NPCs in Wilderness (charged).
  • Use Cases: Extremely effective against Wilderness bosses susceptible to Ranged (Callisto/Artio, Venenatis/Spindel - though Chainmace is often better here), high-level Revenants, Lava Dragons, Chaos Elemental, Wilderness Slayer tasks.

2. Viggora's Chainmace (Melee - Crush)

  • Requirements: 60 Attack
  • Type: Flail (One-handed - Crush), Attack Speed: 4 ticks
  • Effect: Gains +50% Melee Accuracy and Damage vs NPCs in Wilderness (charged).
  • Use Cases: BiS against bosses weak to Crush (Vet'ion/Calvar'ion, Venenatis/Spindel). Excellent for Revenants and various Wilderness Slayer tasks weak to Crush. Stacks multiplicatively with the Salve Amulet (e) against Vet'ion/Calvar'ion for immense damage.

3. Thammaron's Sceptre (Magic)

  • Requirements: 60 Magic
  • Type: Staff (provides Fire runes, autocast Standard spells), Attack Speed: 4 ticks
  • Effect: Gains +100% Magic Accuracy and +25% Magic Damage vs NPCs in Wilderness (charged). Note the different Accuracy/Damage split compared to the others.
  • Use Cases: Strongest magic option against targets weak to Magic in the Wilderness, such as Callisto/Artio (though Ranged is often preferred), Revenants (especially lower levels), and specific Slayer tasks.

Obtaining & Charging

  • Source: Dropped by any Revenant monster in the Revenant Caves. Higher-level Revenants have a better chance. Drop rates are significantly boosted when on a Revenant Slayer task from Krystilia.
  • Charging:
    • Use Revenant Ether (dropped by Revenants) on an uncharged weapon.
    • Initial charge costs 1,000 Ether.
    • Each attack consumes 1 Ether charge.
    • Weapons can hold thousands of charges. Check charges via right-click option.
  • Tradability: Both the uncharged weapons and Revenant Ether are tradeable.

Death Mechanics & Risk

Using these powerful weapons comes with significant risk:

  • Charged Weapons: If you die with a charged Wilderness weapon, it breaks and is dropped for your killer (PvP) or sent to your gravestone (PvM). The killer receives coins based on repair cost in PvP. You lose ALL stored Ether. Repairing the broken weapon costs coins at Perdu. Protect Item saves the broken weapon, not the charges.
  • Uncharged Weapons: Lost normally like any other item based on standard Wilderness death mechanics (kept if one of your protected items, dropped otherwise).

Due to this risk, many players opt to use them only for specific high-value targets or Slayer tasks where the benefits outweigh the potential loss.

Conclusion

The Ancient Wilderness Weapons offer a unique dynamic – incredible power balanced by high risk. Craw's Bow, Viggora's Chainmace, and Thammaron's Sceptre dominate PvM encounters within the Wilderness when charged, making tasks faster and boss kills more efficient. However, their value and the loss of charges on death make them prime targets for PKers. Understanding their effects, charging mechanics, and the risks involved is crucial for any adventurer looking to wield ancient power in Gielinor's most dangerous land.
