OSRS Spindel Guide: Strategy & Loot (Wilderness Boss)
Hunt down Spindel, Venenatis's weaker variant! This OSRS guide covers mechanics, location in the Web Chasm, strategy (Crush focus), loot, and Wilderness risks.
OSRS Spindel Boss Guide: Weaving Through the Web Chasm
Venture into the Web Chasm to face Spindel, the less intimidating yet still dangerous counterpart to the notorious Wilderness boss, Venenatis. Residing in level 29 Wilderness (Singles-plus), Spindel offers a solo-friendly method for obtaining coveted Wilderness uniques like the Voidwaker Gem and Treasonous Ring, albeit with reduced drop rates compared to her mother.
This guide details Spindel's location, attack patterns, phases, the crucial spiderling mechanic, optimal strategies focusing on Crush weapons, and her valuable loot table.
Location & Access
- Requirement: Completion of the Medium Wilderness Diary.
- Location: Web Chasm cave, north of the Graveyard of Shadows (Level 29 Wilderness).
- Fastest Travel:
- Revenant Cave Teleport (scroll) and run south-east.
- Teleport to Ferox Enclave (Ring of Dueling / Minigame Teleport) and run north.
- Hunter Cape teleport (Black Chins) and run south-east.
- Wilderness Canoe (57 Woodcutting) to pond, run south-east.
- Instance Type: Singles-plus combat.
- Teleport Delay: Entering the chasm incurs a 3-tick teleport delay unless the Hard Wilderness Diary is completed. Level 29 Wilderness is within standard Teleport Block range.
Spindel's Mechanics & Attacks
Spindel (Level 302, 515 HP) cycles through predictable attack patterns involving all three combat styles.
- Attack Cycle:
- Ranged Phase (8 Attacks): Uses Ranged (green spit). Spawns Spiderlings on the first attack of this phase.
- Magic Phase (8 Attacks): Uses Magic (white webs). Deploys Sticky Web on the third attack of this phase.
- Movement: Moves to a new position every 4 attacks within a phase.
- Melee Attack: Only used if the player is within melee distance. Avoid this by staying at least one tile away.
- Sticky Web (Magic Phase): Launches a white web that expands into a 7x5 AoE. Standing in it deals rapid small hits (3 damage), drains Prayer (3 points per tick), and drains Run Energy (10 per tick). Avoid standing in the web. Lure it to the edges of the arena by positioning yourself correctly during the 3rd magic attack.
- Spiderlings (Ranged Phase): Summons several small Spiderlings (5 HP).
- They drain Prayer with every hit (even 0s).
- They empower Spindel's damage and allow her attacks to hit through protection prayers if left alive.
- Crucial: Kill the Spiderlings immediately upon spawning.
Strategy: Crush the Spider, Kill the Spawn
Exploiting Spindel's Crush weakness while efficiently dispatching her spiderlings is key.
- Gear: Equip your best Crush weapon. A Salve amulet does not work as she isn't undead. Pray Protect from Missiles initially. Use Piety.
- Positioning: Stay at least one tile away from Spindel to avoid her Melee attack. Try to position yourself near the edges during the Magic phase to control where the Sticky Web lands.
- Ranged Phase: Pray Protect from Missiles. On the first attack, Spindel summons Spiderlings.
- Kill Spiderlings IMMEDIATELY: This is the highest priority.
- Best: Chinchompas (Grey/Red/Black) - aim near Spindel's south-west tile to hit her and multiple spiderlings. (Ensure PK Skull Prevention is ON if using Black Chins).
- Good: Darts (Dragon/Amethyst) or Knives - quickly pick off individual spiderlings.
- Okay: Blighted Ice Barrage/Burst sacks (Ancients) - can hit multiple but requires spellbook swap/different gear setup.
- Continue attacking Spindel once spiderlings are dead.
- Magic Phase: Switch prayer to Protect from Magic. On the third Magic attack, anticipate the Sticky Web and move towards the edge of the arena to place it out of the main fighting area. Continue attacking Spindel.
- Repeat: Cycle through Ranged phase (kill spiderlings) and Magic phase (dodge web), maintaining appropriate prayers until Spindel is defeated.
- PKer Awareness: You are in level 29 Wilderness. Be vigilant. Use a scout account if possible. Be ready to teleport (Hard Diary helps bypass delay) or run if attacked.
Recommended Gear
- Risk Management: Level 29 Wilderness is dangerous. Use standard Wilderness precautions (3-4 valuable items, check Items Kept on Death). Low-risk setups are highly effective.
- Weapon (Essential): Ursine Chainmace / Viggora's Chainmace (Wilderness weapon, massive bonus vs Spindel) >>> Inquisitor's Mace > Soulreaper Axe (Crush) / Abyssal Bludgeon > Zombie Axe (Crush) / Zamorakian Hasta (Crush) > Sarachnis Cudgel / Dragon Mace.
- Spiderling Killer: Chinchompas (Grey/Red recommended for less risk) OR Dragon/Amethyst Darts/Knives.
- Armour: Prioritize Melee Strength > Crush Accuracy > Magic Defence (vs PKers) > Prayer Bonus. Fighter Torso, Neitiznot Helm, Fire/Infernal Cape, Barrows Gloves, Dragon Boots are good high-value options (parchment recommended). Proselyte/Monk Robes with Black d'hide chaps are excellent low-risk options.
- Ring: Ultor Ring > Berserker Ring (i). Ring of Shadows/Wealth(i) for utility/teleport.
- Spec Weapon: Ursine Chainmace spec > Elder Maul spec > Dragon Warhammer / BGS (less effective due to lower defence) > Dragon Mace spec.

Conclusion
Spindel offers a faster, safer, and solo-friendly method to hunt for Venenatis's uniques compared to the original multi-combat encounter. The fight requires disciplined prayer switching, immediate reaction to spiderling spawns, and careful positioning to avoid the debilitating sticky web. By mastering these mechanics and utilizing a powerful Crush weapon, players can efficiently farm Spindel for a chance at the valuable Voidwaker Gem and other Wilderness treasures, while always remaining wary of player killers.
