OSRS New Demonbane Weapons Guide: Torment's Arsenal

The defeat of Lucien's Tormented Demons unlocked not just access to the Ancient Guthixian Temple, but also the secrets to crafting a new generation of potent Demonbane Weapons. Utilizing tormented synapses and burning claws, these weapons offer specialized advantages against demonic foes across all three combat styles.

This guide details the four new Demonbane weapons introduced with the While Guthix Sleeps aftermath: Emberlight, Burning Claws, Scorching Bow, and Purging Staff.

Overview: Expanding Demonbane Capabilities

While Arclight has long been the king of melee demon slaying, these new weapons broaden the arsenal:

  • Crafting Requirement: Creating Emberlight, Scorching Bow, and Purging Staff requires completion of While Guthix Sleeps, reading Duradel's notes, specific skilling levels (Smithing/Fletching/Crafting), and an untradeable Tormented Synapse (dropped by Tormented Demons). Burning Claws simply require combining two claw drops.
  • Untradeable (Mostly): Synapse-based weapons are untradeable. Burning Claws are tradeable. The synapse/claws themselves are tradeable.
  • Demon Focus: Their power lies in enhanced effects against demonic creatures.

The New Demonbane Weapons Detailed

1. Emberlight (Melee Sword)

  • Requires: 77 Attack, 74 Smithing (boostable), Arclight (10k charges/100% infused), Tormented Synapse.
  • Stats: +63 Stab / +70 Slash Attack, +13 Strength. (4-tick speed).
  • Effect: Direct Arclight Upgrade. Retains the 70% Accuracy & Damage bonus vs demons (except Duke Sucellus @ 49%). Does not degrade.
  • Special Attack (Weaken - 50%): Lowers target's Attack, Strength, Defence by 15% (+1) vs demons (5% + 1 vs non-demons). Stacks additively. Uses Stab accuracy.
  • Verdict: The new BiS melee weapon against most demons where Arclight was previously used, offering better stats, no charge upkeep, and an improved spec.

2. Burning Claws (Melee Claws)

  • Requires: 77 Attack. Combine two Burning Claw drops (from Tormented Demons).
  • Stats: +92 Stab / +112 Slash Attack, +118 Strength. (4-tick speed). Note: stats slightly lower than Dragon Claws.
  • Effect: Functions like Dragon Claws but deals +15% bonus damage vs demons.
  • Special Attack (Demon Rend - 50%): Hits 4 times rapidly, similar to Dragon Claw spec, but with the +15% demon damage bonus applied. Accuracy is rolled once for all 4 hits.
  • Verdict: A powerful special attack weapon specifically for demonic targets, potentially out-damaging Dragon Claws/Voidwaker specs in the right scenarios due to the damage bonus. Tradeable nature makes it accessible.

3. Scorching Bow (Ranged)

  • Requires: 77 Ranged, 74 Fletching (boostable), Magic Longbow (u), Tormented Synapse.
  • Stats: +124 Ranged Attack, +40 Ranged Strength. Fires up to Dragon Arrows. (5-tick speed Accurate/Longrange, 4-tick Rapid).
  • Effect: Grants +30% Ranged Accuracy & Damage vs demons. Stacks additively with Slayer Helm (i) (total +45%).
  • Special Attack (Scorching Shackles - 25%): +30% Accuracy, binds demons for 12 seconds, applies a small burn (5 damage over time). Does not work on non-demons.
  • Verdict: Provides a much-needed Ranged demonbane option. Stronger than Magic Shortbow (i) or Rune Crossbow against demons, potentially competing with higher-tier bows depending on defence levels. The bind spec offers utility.

4. Purging Staff (Magic)

  • Requires: 77 Magic, 50 Attack, 74 Crafting (boostable), 55 Smithing (non-boostable), Battlestaff, Iron Bar, Tormented Synapse.
  • Stats: +37 Magic Attack (BiS), +25 Magic Defence, +10% Magic Damage bonus. (5-tick speed autocast). Can autocast Standard & Arceuus offensive spells.
  • Effect: Doubles the damage/accuracy bonus of Demonbane Spells (e.g., Dark Demonbane). Doubles the effect of Mark of Darkness when used with Demonbane spells. Mark of Darkness also lasts 5x longer if cast while wielding the staff.
  • Special Attack (Scatter Ashes - 25%): Uses the best Demonbane spell available. Refunds spec energy and reduces next attack delay by 3 ticks if it kills the target demon. Requires Arceuus spellbook.
  • Verdict: A niche but extremely powerful staff when combined with the Arceuus Demonbane spells against susceptible demons. Highest raw Magic Attack in the game, making it decent even for standard casting, though slow.

Conclusion

The new Demonbane weapons significantly expand the options for fighting demonic creatures effectively across all combat styles. Emberlight replaces Arclight as the go-to melee option, while the Scorching Bow and Purging Staff fill crucial Ranged and Magic niches. Burning Claws offer a potent demonic-focused special attack alternative. Obtaining the untradeable synapse for three of these weapons requires tackling Tormented Demons, adding a layer of challenge to acquiring this specialized arsenal.
