OSRS Moon Equipment Guide: Harnessing Lunar Power!
Deep within the perilous prison of Neypotzli, vanquishing the Moons of Peril yields powerful rewards: the Moon Equipment sets. Each of the three Moons – Blood, Blue, and Eclipse – drops pieces of their corresponding armour and unique weapons, offering potent bonuses and interesting mechanics for mid-to-high level players.
This guide breaks down each of the three Moon Equipment sets, detailing their stats, requirements, unique weapon properties, set effects, and degradation mechanics.
General Information
- Source: Lunar Chest within Neypotzli (Moons of Peril reward).
- Tiers: Requires 50 Defence for all armour pieces, plus 70-75 in specific combat skills depending on the set.
- Structure: Each set includes a Helm, Chestplate, Tassets, and a unique two-handed Weapon.
- Degradation: Armour pieces (Helm, Body, Legs) degrade over 45 hours of combat. Weapons do not degrade. Degraded armour loses stats only when fully broken and can be repaired by NPCs or at a POH Armour Stand (cheaper with higher Smithing). Tradeable only when fully repaired or fully broken.
- Set Effects: Equipping all four pieces of a single set grants a unique passive effect.
Blood Moon Set (Melee - Strength Focus)
- Requirements: 50 Defence (Armour), 75 Strength (Armour), 70 Attack (Weapon), 75 Strength (Weapon).
- Focus: Pure Melee Damage. Offers substantial Strength bonus, making it a fantastic stepping stone towards gear like Bandos armour.
- Weapon: Dual Macuahuitl
- Mechanic: Hits twice per attack (1 tick apart). Max hit is halved per hitsplat. Requires passing two independent accuracy checks – one for each hit. Excels against low-defence targets, less effective vs high defence.
- Stats: +115 Stab / +121 Crush Attack, +81 Melee Strength. Attack speed 4 ticks.
- Armour Stats (Full Set - Excluding Weapon): +110 Stab Def, +161 Slash Def, +163 Crush Def, +79 Magic Def, +154 Ranged Def, +10 Melee Strength. (Negligible attack bonuses).
- Set Effect: Bloodrager: The Dual Macuahuitl has a 33% chance per successful hitsplat (effectively ~55% chance if both hits land) to make the next attack occur 1 tick faster (3-tick attack instead of 4).
Blue Moon Set (Magic/Melee Hybrid)
- Requirements: 50 Defence (Armour), 75 Magic (Armour), 70 Attack (Weapon), 75 Magic (Weapon).
- Focus: Hybrid Melee/Magic user. Offers decent Magic accuracy and damage, along with some Melee capabilities.
- Weapon: Blue Moon Spear
- Mechanic: Standard spear mechanics.
- Stats: +70 Stab / +62 Slash / +62 Crush Attack, +30 Magic Attack, +71 Melee Strength, +5% Magic Damage, +15 Prayer. Attack speed 4 ticks.
- Armour Stats (Full Set - Excluding Weapon): +0 Melee Def, +83 Crush Def, +66 Magic Def, +32 Ranged Def, +6 Melee Strength, +3% Magic Damage. (High Magic Attack bonus).
- Set Effect: Frostweaver: After casting a binding spell (e.g., Entangle, Ice Barrage), your next melee attack with the Blue Moon Spear has a 20% chance to ignore action delays (attack instantly).
Eclipse Moon Set (Ranged/Melee Hybrid)
- Requirements: 50 Defence (Armour), 75 Ranged (Armour), 75 Ranged (Weapon), 50 Attack (Weapon), 50 Strength (Weapon).
- Focus: Hybrid Ranged/Melee user with a unique damage scaling mechanic.
- Weapon: Eclipse Atlatl
- Mechanic: Uses Atlatl Darts as ammo. Uniquely, its Ranged damage calculation uses the player's Melee Strength stat and bonuses (e.g., from armour, potions). However, it benefits from Ranged prayers (Eagle Eye/Rigour) and Melee bonuses from Slayer Helm/Salve Amulet. Gains damage from Void Ranger Helm, not Melee Helm.
- Stats: +87 Ranged Attack, +40 Melee Strength (contributes to Ranged damage). Attack speed 3 ticks.
- Armour Stats (Full Set - Excluding Weapon): +26 Stab Def, +34 Slash Def, +108 Crush Def, +96 Magic Def, +53 Ranged Def, +7 Melee Strength. (Significant Ranged Attack bonus, negative Magic Attack).
- Set Effect: Eclipse: The Eclipse Atlatl has a 20% chance per hit to inflict a Burn effect on the target, dealing 10 damage over 24 seconds (1 damage every 4 ticks). This burn can stack up to five times.
Conclusion
The Moon Equipment sets are powerful and well-designed additions to OSRS, bridging the gap between mid-game gear like Barrows/Dragon and high-end gear like Bandos, Ancestral, or Armadyl. Each set offers a distinct playstyle – pure melee burst with Blood Moon, versatile magic/melee hybridization with Blue Moon, and unique ranged/melee scaling with Eclipse Moon. Understanding their mechanics, set effects, and degradation is key to utilizing them effectively in your Varlamore adventures and beyond!
