OSRS Araxxor Boss Guide: Mastering the Morytania Spider
Prepare for a venomous encounter! Araxxor, the monstrous araxyte residing deep within the Morytania Spider Cave, presents a challenging Slayer boss fight for high-level players. Defeating this formidable foe requires mechanical skill, careful resource management, and understanding its unique attack patterns and phases.
This guide details the requirements, location, core mechanics, special attacks, loot table (including the coveted Noxious components and Araxyte Fang), and strategic considerations for defeating Araxxor.
Requirements & Location
- Slayer Level: 92 Slayer (boostable from 87+ using a Wild Pie).
- Task Required: Must be on an active Araxyte or Spider Slayer task. Konar quo Maten can also assign Araxxor directly as a boss task. You cannot kill Araxxor off-task.
- Location: Araxxor's Lair, accessed via a web tunnel in the Morytania Spider Cave (north-east of Darkmeyer).
- Instance: Solo-only.
Fight Overview & Core Mechanics
Araxxor is primarily a melee-focused fight, but incorporates Magic and Ranged attacks, along with venom and acid hazards.
- Combat Styles:
- Melee: Araxxor's primary attack style when you are within melee distance.
- Magic/Ranged: If outside melee range, Araxxor uses Magic or Ranged based on your lower defensive stat roll. His attacks inflict venom.
- Aranea Boots: Can negate one Ranged attack every 8 ticks (useful but doesn't block Magic).
- Araxyte Eggs: Nine eggs (3 red, 3 white, 3 green) surround the lair. They hatch clockwise, starting south-east, based on Araxxor's attack count (first after 3 attacks, subsequent after 6). Hatched araxytes (Mirrorback, Acidic, Explosive) add complexity and must be dealt with. They count as on-task monsters.
- Acid Pools: Araxxor's special attacks and enrage phase cleave leave damaging acid pools on the ground. Standing in them inflicts venom and rapidly increasing damage. Positioning is key.
- Special Attacks: Used every six standard attacks, determined by the type of the next egg to hatch (south-easternmost).
- Enrage Phase (25% HP): Araxxor becomes significantly more dangerous.
- Defence level increases by 35.
- Attack speed increases (6 ticks -> 4 ticks).
- Standard melee attack replaced by a Cleave attack (1x3 area damage, leaves acid pools).
- The Cleave can damage Araxxor if you step under him during the attack animation. Aranea Boots can negate one Cleave hit every 8 ticks.
Special Attacks (Determined by Next Egg Type)
- Red Egg (Mirrorback Araxyte): Araxxor fires a web that reflects damage if attacked during the animation.
- White Egg (Acidic Araxyte): Araxxor spits venomous acid, dealing damage and leaving lingering acid pools.
- Green Egg (Explosive Araxyte): Araxxor launches an egg that explodes, dealing damage in an area.
(Detailed strategies for handling each araxyte type and specific special attack patterns are beyond this overview but crucial for success. Refer to dedicated video guides.)
Strategy Considerations
- Gear: High melee defence and offence are paramount. Best-in-slot melee gear (Torva, Inquisitor's) is ideal. A strong primary weapon (Scythe, Soulreaper Axe, Ghrazi Rapier) is recommended. Consider bringing Aranea Boots. Anti-venom/Serpentine Helm is essential.
- Combat Style: Primarily melee, but be prepared to react to Magic/Ranged attacks if forced out of melee range.
- Prayer: Protect from Melee is standard, but quick switches to Protect from Magic/Missiles might be needed if out of melee range. Piety/Rigour are crucial.
- Minion Control: Dealing with the hatched araxytes quickly and efficiently is vital. Mirrorbacks reflecting damage can be deadly if ignored. Acidic araxytes increase venom damage. Explosive araxytes deal significant AoE damage.
- Positioning: Constantly manage your position to avoid acid pools, especially during the enrage phase. Utilizing the "step-under" mechanic during the enrage cleave can deal damage back to Araxxor.
- Supplies: Bring high-healing food, prayer restoration, anti-venom+, and combat potions. Wild pies may be needed for boosting Slayer level.
Loot Table & Rewards
Araxxor offers valuable rewards, including components for powerful gear. After the kill, you choose to Harvest or Destroy the corpse.
- Harvest: Rolls the standard loot table. Average kill value is significant (~47k standard + ~170k from uniques averaged out).
- Destroy: Forfeits ALL standard loot but doubles the Nid pet drop rate (1/3000 -> 1/1500). Elite clues can still drop.
Notable Drops (Harvest):
- Unique Table (1/150 roll):
- Noxious Halberd Pieces (1/200 each, duplication protected): Noxious Pommel, Noxious Point, Noxious Blade. Combine all three (72 Smithing) to create the powerful Tier 85 Noxious Halberd.
- Araxyte Fang (1/600, Untradeable): Combine with an Amulet of Torture (86 Crafting) to create the Amulet of Rancour.
- Standard Loot: Includes supplies (venom sacks, potions, food), runes, seeds, resources (ores, logs), noted gear (rune items), and tertiary drops.
- Tertiary:
- Nid Pet: 1/3000 (1/1500 if Destroy chosen).
- Clue Scroll (Elite): ~1/50.
- Araxyte Head: 1/250 (Cosmetic Slayer Helm recolour).
- Jar of Venom: 1/1500 (Untradeable cosmetic).
- Coagulated Venom: Guaranteed drop (used for pet transmog).
Conclusion
Araxxor is a demanding but rewarding Slayer boss. Mastering the fight requires learning its attack patterns, managing the araxyte minions effectively, and precise movement to avoid hazards. The potential rewards, especially the components for the Noxious Halberd and the Amulet of Rancour, make it a highly sought-after kill for high-level players looking to push their gear to the next level.
