OSRS F2P Quest Order Guide (Best Path for Beginners!)

Hey new adventurers! Welcome to Old School RuneScape's Free-to-Play (F2P) world! One of the best ways to get started, gain some quick levels, and unlock important stuff is by doing quests. But with quite a few available, which ones should you do first? This guide suggests an efficient quest order to get the most bang for your buck!

Doing quests gives you way better starting XP than just grinding chickens! It's a core part of the early game unlocks.

Why Questing Rocks in F2P

  • Awesome XP Rewards: Quests give big XP chunks, especially for combat skills, letting you skip the super slow early levels.
  • Unlock Key Areas: Quests open up important places like the Champions' Guild or the island of Karamja.
  • Get Cool Gear: Completing Dragon Slayer I lets you wear Rune Platebodies!
  • Learn the Game: Quests introduce you to different areas, characters, and game mechanics.

Efficient F2P Quest Order (Suggestion)

This order aims for useful unlocks and minimizing travel time. Feel free to jump around based on what you enjoy!

Phase 1: Lumbridge & Draynor Basics

  1. Cook's Assistant: Right next to Lumbridge spawn. Super easy, gives Cooking XP. The classic first quest.
  2. Sheep Shearer: Just north of Lumbridge. Quick Crafting XP.
  3. The Restless Ghost: Starts in Lumbridge church. Unlocks Prayer XP reward & access to wizard's tower basement. Essential early quest.
  4. Rune Mysteries: Starts at Lumbridge Castle Duke. Unlocks the Runecrafting skill (though training it in F2P is very limited - see Runecrafting Guide for members info). Also unlocks access to Wizards' Tower top floor.
  5. Witch's Potion: Starts in Rimmington (west of Port Sarim). Easy Magic XP.
  6. Imp Catcher: Starts at Wizards' Tower. Decent Magic XP for collecting beads.

Phase 2: Varrock & Barbarian Village

  1. Demon Slayer: Starts in Varrock square. Good Combat XP reward, unlocks Silverlight sword (useful vs demons).
  2. Shield of Arrav: Requires finding a partner (ask in chat!). Starts in Varrock. Choose Phoenix or Black Arm Gang. Decent GP reward.
  3. Below Ice Mountain: (Added relatively recently!) Starts near Barbarian Village/Edgeville Monastery. Decent early XP rewards.

Phase 3: Falador & Beyond

  1. Black Knights' Fortress: Starts in Falador. Needed for later quests. Decent quest points.
  2. The Knight's Sword: Starts in Falador square (talk to Squire). MASSIVE Smithing XP reward, lets you skip many early levels! Highly recommended for Smithing.
  3. Goblin Diplomacy: Starts in Goblin Village (North of Falador). Quick and easy quest points.
  4. Doric's Quest: North of Falador. Easy Mining XP reward.
  5. Pirate's Treasure: Starts in Port Sarim. Unlocks access to Karamja island (important!) and requires some running.
  6. Ernest the Chicken: Starts at Draynor Manor. Puzzle quest, needed for Animal Magnetism later if you go members.

Phase 4: Wrapping up for Dragon Slayer I

  1. Vampyre Slayer: Starts in Draynor Village pub. Good Attack XP reward.
  2. Misthalin Mystery: Starts by Lumbridge Swamp mine entrance. Quick clue-style quest.
  3. Dragon Slayer I: The "Grandmaster" F2P quest! Starts in the Champions' Guild (south of Varrock - need 32 Quest Points to enter!). Involves sailing, exploring Crandor island, and fighting the mighty dragon Elvarg! Requires good combat stats (40+ recommended) and gear (Rune or Adamant). Unlocks: Ability to wear Rune Platebody / Green D'hide Body. Huge achievement!
