OSRS CoX Points System Explained | Chambers of Xeric Loot Guide
How do points work in Chambers of Xeric (CoX)? This guide explains personal/team points, the death penalty, unique drop chances, and tips to maximize CoX rewards.
Chambers of Xeric Points & Loot System Explained (CoX Guide)
Understanding the points system in Chambers of Xeric (CoX / Raids 1) is crucial if you want to maximize your chances at those awesome unique drops like the Twisted Bow or Ancestral Robes (Ancestral Review here). More points generally mean a better chance at loot. Let’s break down how you earn points, how dying hurts your score, and simple strategies to get more points.
You can find general prep info in our main OSRS Chambers of Xeric Guide. Trying Challenge Mode)? Points matter there too!
1. CoX Points Basics
- Personal Points: You earn these yourself by doing damage, completing tasks in skilling rooms (like chopping Ice Demon logs or building crab crystals), and sometimes healing teammates.
- Team Points: This is simply the total personal points of everyone in your raid added together. This total determines how likely the team is to roll the unique drop table.
- Unique Drop Chance: Roughly speaking, the chance of any unique item dropping for the team is:
(Total Team Points / 8,675) * 0.1%
. (Note: The actual formula is more complex involving scaling and caps, but this gives the idea). Each 8,675 team points is like 1 "roll". Your personal points determine your chance of getting the unique if one drops for the team.
2. The Death Penalty - Don't Die!
Dying in CoX is bad for loot. Each time you die:
- You lose 40% of your current personal points.
- The points you lost are also removed from the total team points.
- Dying multiple times destroys your personal points and heavily lowers the team's unique chance. Staying alive is the #1 priority for good loot. (Need help with tough bosses? Consider PvM services).
3. Where Points Come From (Approximate Values)
Different actions give different points. Here are some examples:
Action | Approx. Points Earned |
---|---|
Dealing 1 HP of Damage (any monster) | Generally 1+ (scales complexly) |
Dealing 1 HP Damage (Olm boss) | Higher value per HP |
Gathering 1 Kindling (Ice Demon) | ~40 points |
Building 1 Crab Crystal (Tightrope) | ~50 points |
Solo Healing Portal (Vespula) | ~75 points |
Farming Herb Patch (Guardians) | ~130 points |
Catching Fish (Muttadiles) | ~75 points |
(Important Note: Point values can scale slightly based on combat levels and raid size. Damage points are complex but consistently contribute).
Personal Cap: Your individual points effectively "cap" around 65,535 for calculating your share of loot if a unique drops. Earning more points still adds to the team total, slightly increasing the overall unique chance, but doesn't dramatically boost your personal odds beyond the cap.
4. Strategy for Getting Max Points
- NO DEATHS: Seriously, this is the biggest thing. Play safe.
- Be Efficient in Skill Rooms: Don't slack! Aim for high kindling counts, perfect crab puzzle solutions, quick Vespula portal heals etc.
- High DPS: More damage = more points. Use your best gear (check gear progression) and specs wisely (like Dragon Warhammer first). Using strong weapons like the Twisted Bow or Fang helps immensely.
- Gather Supplies: Picking up dropped Cicely leaves, fish, or cave grubs adds small point bonuses. Every bit helps.
- Team Coordination: In efficient teams, some players might focus purely on skilling rooms while others push ahead to the next combat room to start dealing damage sooner ('pre-hitting').
5. Example Unique Drop Chances (Estimates)
This shows how total team points roughly impact the overall chance of seeing any purple light in the chest (your personal chance depends on your % of these points):
Total Team Points | Approx. Team Unique Chance | Notes |
---|---|---|
50k | ~5.8% | Low point raid / many deaths |
100k | ~11.5% | Average learner raid |
150k | ~17.3% | Decent coordinated run |
250k | ~28.8% | Good clean run |
570k+ (Cap Avg) | ~65.7% (Point Cap) | Max points efficient run |
These are simplified estimates. Actual rates involve scaling factors. A clean, high-point raid significantly boosts your odds compared to a sloppy run with lots of deaths.
