OSRS God Wars Dungeon Shortcuts & Travel Guide

Getting to the God Wars Dungeon (GWD) can be a trek, especially for repeated trips. Optimizing your travel time means more time fighting bosses and less time running. This guide details the various shortcuts, teleports, and travel methods to reach the GWD entrance efficiently.

For a general overview of the dungeon itself, refer to our main God Wars Dungeon Guide.

Fastest Travel Methods: Teleports

Teleporting significantly cuts down travel time compared to walking.

  1. Ghommal's Hilt (Combat Achievements Reward):
    • Requires: Unlocking via Combat Achievements.
    • Method: Right-click teleport option on the hilt.
    • Destination: Directly outside the GWD entrance boulder.
    • Speed: Instantaneous. The absolute fastest method.
    • Tiers: Tier 1 & 2 offer limited daily teleports. Tier 3+ offers unlimited teleports. See the Ghommal's Hilt Guide for details.
  2. Trollheim Teleport:
    • Requires: 61 Magic, completion of Eadgar's Ruse.
    • Method: Standard Spellbook or Teleport Tablet.
    • Destination: Summit east of Troll Stronghold.
    • Speed: Very fast. Requires a short run north/downhill to the GWD entrance.
    • Notes: Can utilize Agility shortcuts (see below) on the run down. Still requires navigating the stat-draining area near the entrance.
  3. Stony Basalt:
    • Requires: Completion of Making Friends with My Arm.
    • Method: Use the Stony Basalt item.
    • Destination: Inside Troll Stronghold.
    • Speed: Fast, but the run is slightly longer than from the Trollheim Teleport spot.

Slower Travel Methods: Walking / Other

If teleports aren't an option:

  1. Walking from Burthorpe:
    • Requires: Climbing boots, partial completion of Troll Stronghold.
    • Method: Use Games Necklace to Burthorpe, run north past Tenzing or Death Plateau.
    • Speed: Slowest method, requires navigating multiple aggressive areas (Thrower Trolls - use Protect from Range). Stamina potions highly recommended.

Agility Shortcuts & Obstacles

  • Trollheim Run Path: Several Agility shortcuts exist on the path down from the Trollheim Teleport landing spot. These require levels 41, 44, and 47 Agility and slightly speed up the run to the GWD entrance area.
  • Wilderness Shortcuts (Warning): Shortcuts north-east of the GWD entrance and east of Trollheim (requiring 60 and 64 Agility respectively) lead one-way INTO the Wilderness. Do not mistake these for shortcuts to GWD.
  • GWD Entrance Obstacle: Requires 60 Strength (Boulder) OR 60 Agility (Crack in wall) to pass the initial obstacle before the icy slope leading to the entrance hole. This cannot be bypassed by shortcuts.
  • Saradomin Encampment Ropes: Requires 70 Agility and 2 ropes only the first time to set up permanent access across the gaps inside the Saradomin area.
  • Armadyl Eyrie Grapple: Requires 70 Ranged and any crossbow + mithril grapple every time to cross the chasm.
  • Bandos Stronghold Door: Requires 70 Strength and a hammer every time to bang the door open.

Minimizing Inventory Slots for Travel

  • Trollheim Teleport Tablets: Use tablets instead of runes to save inventory space.
  • Scroll of Redirection: Use on House Teleport tablets to create two Trollheim Teleport tablets. Use one, then revert the second back to a House tab once at GWD to save a space on the return trip (useful if not using Ectophial/Seed Pod).
  • Ghommal's Hilt: Acts as its own teleport, saving space.
  • Hammer: If using the Dragon Warhammer, Elder Maul, or Imcando Hammer, these count as hammers for the Bandos door, saving a slot. Goblins near the door also drop hammers.

Conclusion

Choosing the right travel method can save significant time on your GWD trips. Ghommal's Hilt offers unparalleled speed, followed closely by the Trollheim Teleport. Understanding the requirements for each method and the few actual shortcuts available helps streamline your journey to face the powerful generals within the God Wars Dungeon.
