OSRS Armadyl Armour Review

Armadyl armour stands as one of the most iconic and powerful Ranged armour sets in Old School RuneScape. Dropped exclusively by General Kree'arra and his minions in the God Wars Dungeon, this set requires 70 Ranged and 70 Defence to equip. For a long time, it reigned as the best-in-slot Ranged armour, and it remains a top-tier choice for high-level players.

Components and Stats

The set consists of three pieces:

  • Armadyl Helmet: Provides a significant +10 Ranged Attack bonus, along with decent defensive stats, particularly in Magic Defence (+10), and a +1 Prayer bonus.
  • Armadyl Chestplate: The centerpiece, offering a substantial +33 Ranged Attack bonus, strong defensive stats across the board (especially Ranged Defence +70), and another +1 Prayer bonus.
  • Armadyl Chainskirt: Complements the chestplate with +20 Ranged Attack, good defences, and a +1 Prayer bonus.

Full Set Bonuses (Total):

  • Ranged Attack: +63
  • Melee Attack: -18 (All styles)
  • Magic Attack: -30
  • Melee Defences: +94 Stab, +82 Slash, +105 Crush
  • Magic Defence: +120
  • Ranged Defence: +98
  • Prayer: +3

Comparison to Alternatives

  • Karil the Tainted's Equipment: Armadyl offers significantly better Ranged Attack (+63 vs +49 for Karil's top/bottom/coif) and vastly superior Melee/Magic/Ranged defence bonuses. Crucially, Armadyl does not degrade, unlike Karil's which requires repairs, making Armadyl more cost-effective in the long run despite its higher upfront cost.
  • Blessed Dragonhide: While much cheaper and offering Prayer bonuses, Blessed D'hide has lower Ranged Attack (+49 for body/chaps/coif) and significantly lower defensive stats compared to Armadyl.
  • Void Knight Equipment (Ranged): Void offers a +10% Ranged Damage and Accuracy set bonus (12.5% damage with Elite Void). This makes Void better against low-defence monsters. However, Armadyl's superior accuracy and defensive stats make it significantly better against monsters with high Defence or where survivability is crucial. See our Void Knight Guide.
  • Masori Armour (Fortified): The current best-in-slot Ranged armour defensively. Regular Masori offers higher Ranged Attack and Strength than Armadyl but lower defences. Fortified Masori (requiring Armadylean plates from breaking down Armadyl armour + 90 Crafting) surpasses Armadyl in both offence and defence. However, Masori is significantly more expensive.

Drawbacks

  • Cost: Armadyl pieces are valuable drops and command a high price on the Grand Exchange.
  • Negative Melee/Magic Attack: The significant penalties to Melee and Magic attack bonuses make it unsuitable for hybrid setups where frequent style switching is needed without gear swaps.

Uses and Verdict

Armadyl armour is the go-to Ranged set for a vast range of high-level PvM content where Ranged is the primary attack style and strong defence is beneficial. This includes:

  • God Wars Dungeon bosses (like Kree'arra itself, Zilyana, Zamorak minions)
  • Chambers of Xeric
  • Commander Zilyana
  • General Graardor (Ranged methods)
  • Many Slayer tasks fought with Ranged

Verdict: Armadyl armour remains an excellent and highly sought-after Ranged set. It provides top-tier Ranged offense (second only to Masori), substantial defensive bonuses superior to Karil's and Blessed D'hide, and the convenience of being non-degradable. While extremely expensive, its power and utility justify the cost for players serious about high-level Ranged PvM. Its components are also essential for creating the absolute best-in-slot Fortified Masori armour.
