Avernic Treads Guide: OSRS's New Best-in-Slot Hybrid Boots | Tons of XP Blog
A new king has arrived for the boot slot. Our guide covers the Avernic Treads, their unique modular upgrade system, and why they are the new BiS for all combat styles.
The end-game meta for the boot slot has been stable for years, with Primordial, Pegasian, and Eternal boots reigning supreme. That era is over. A new, powerful piece of equipment has arrived to claim the title of undisputed best-in-slot for all three combat styles: the Avernic Treads.
Dropped by the formidable new boss, the Doom of Mokhaiotl, these boots introduce a unique, modular upgrade system and set a new standard for power. This guide covers everything you need to know about this game-changing item.
What Are Avernic Treads? The Hybrid Powerhouse
Avernic Treads are high-level boots with a demanding requirement of level 80 in Defence, Strength, Ranged, and Magic to wear.
Even in their base, un-upgraded form, they are incredibly powerful, boasting higher attack and defence bonuses than any of the existing Cerberus boots. However, the base version has a slightly lower Strength bonus (+4) than Primordial Boots (+5), making the upgrade process crucial to unlocking their full potential.
The Unique Upgrade Process: A Modular System
Unlike other items, the Avernic Treads are designed as a long-term upgrade project. You enhance them by combining them with the three previous best-in-slot boots.
The Formula:
- 1x
Avernic treads
- 1x
Primordial boots
+ 4,000Demon tears
- 1x
Pegasian boots
+ 4,000Demon tears
- 1x
Eternal boots
+ 4,000Demon tears
The key feature is that these upgrades can be applied one at a time. This allows for a gradual progression. For example, you can first add your Primordial boots to create Avernic treads (pr)
, which will then possess the enhanced stats of the Primordials. You can continue adding the other boots as you acquire them.
Important Note: The treads become untradeable once you begin the upgrade process. You can revert them to get the component boots back, but the 12,000 Demon Tears will be lost permanently.
The Final Form: Avernic Treads (Max)
Once you have combined the base treads with all three Cerberus boots and 12,000 Demon Tears, you create the Avernic treads (max)
. This final form is the undisputed best-in-slot boot for every combat style.
Not only do they combine the accuracy bonuses of all three boots, but they also possess higher strength bonuses than the originals, making them a direct upgrade over Primordials for Melee, Pegasians for Ranged, and Eternals for Magic.
The Verdict: The New Ultimate Goal
The Avernic Treads represent the new pinnacle of achievement for the boot slot. Their high requirements and expensive, time-gated upgrade path make them a true end-game chase item. The modular design is a welcome feature, allowing players to gradually work towards the best-in-slot goal without needing all the components at once. For any player looking to completely max out their account, acquiring and upgrading the Avernic Treads is the new ultimate goal.
